facts reached a staggering number of americans on facebook at the height of the presidential campaign. nbc jolene kent reports. >> reporter: this morning, new bomb shells from facebook and twitter on russia attempt to influence american vote nerves the lead up to the 2016 election. facebook revealing to nbc news that 80,000 posts from russian facebook accounts potentially got a third of americans between 2016 and 17. testimony by nbc news the world social network will tell congress that at least a million people during the two-year period. the posts came from 120 fake russia backed pages. at first they only reached 29 million users. but then through like, shares and follows they reached 126 million americans, that's half of all eligible

accounts down and began trying to understand how they misused our content. they were separate from paid for by russian entities. the admission comes from nearly a year after facebook ceo mark suk zuckerberg walked back. >> i don't want anyone to use our tools to undermine democracy. that's not what we stand for. >> reporter: also new today twitter says it found nearly 37,000 accounts that were linked to return entities the which means september 1th and november 15th, 2016. these automated accounts or bots tweeted 1 million times and were seen 288 million times. twitter says the impact was limited adding russian linked automated accounts constituted less than twi quarters of the over all election tweets on twitter at the time. congressional investigators are expecting more answers

cars. all this pro-active protection that we provide our kids, laying out the guidelines what to expect gives the kids a road map to get more digital access. >> so perhaps after you do your homework, you are allowed 30 minutes, something like that, and they agree to that so the expectation is there. >> absolutely. where does the phone go at bedtime, or during the car, sleep offers, dinner time, breakfast, all those kind of things. >> i like that now you also talk about family sharing being a good idea. what do you mean by that? >> family sharing is something that apple has created which is a part of the parental control. but doesn't have a lot of press. so when this a child hears about an app on the back of the bus from an older kid, instead of within a couple of seconds having that app on their phone, they have to go through, what should be a simple process, go into the app store and sends a notification to the parent

app or download the app, even if it's free, so the parent can take a quick review, what is this app about, hopefully they'll tell the parent ahead of time, i want to get to the app. so instead of johnny going to a store getting a toy, getting parents credit card, they have to ask for permission. >> and again it forces, in my opinion, as a child psych girks i'm trying to create this child parent dialogue around safe nona addicted smart phone use. >> kids want that. we know kids want guidelines. >> guidelines help all kids. reduces anxiety. less unknown. this is what i'm expected to do when i follow the basic rules i get more of what i want. that is the set up in our society in most aspects. >> and parents have to it be role models too. you point that ouchlt because i can't sit at
